Monday

Today was our first Monday of Second Grade! Time is flying! Some highlights of our day included:

The Birthday Boy! Happy Birthday, Miles!

Silent Reading

This is our IPICK chart which talks about choosing a book that's right for you. We looked at some footwear as well. These shoes helped us think about purpose and interest when we choose books. Ask your child about the Five Finger rule!

Working on our Comic Strips

It turns out the video was more difficult to upload than originally expected. As soon as my technological support arrives, I hope to have the video of our Me in a Bag project up and running for you to view!

Day 2

Today was a busy day! In the morning we got to know our classroom better by hunting for things that were made of metal, wood, started with an 'n', etc. We had a special assembly where Mr. V. sang "Where is Bill?" and "Wade in the Water." We read a book called Miss Mingo and the First Day of School. It has a lot of great animal facts that we really enjoyed. Our first music class with Mrs. Garver-Solis was a success! We had fantastic behavior and impressed her as Second Graders! Our success continued in the classroom with a short math assessment, a very silent Silent Reading time, and a very cooperative block of creative time. We created picnic supplies for the bulletin board outside our classroom. We can't wait for you to see it next week during Parents Night and Get to Know You conferences. In the afternoon, we went to Art with Mr. Cicetti and to the library with Mrs. Oeth. We took a survey of our classmates to find out how many things we have in common. It turns out, we are a lot alike! The 2D kids know our CARES rules forward and back. We used cooperation, assertion, responsibility, empathy, and self-control to make today another incredible day.

Until tomorrow,
Ms. Penney

Ice Cream Social

It was wonderful to see so many of our 2D kids this evening! We are even more excited to get started with Second Grade now that we've met you! Enjoy your final day of summer and we will see you on Wednesday!

Parents are welcome to bring their child to the classroom on Wednesday morning. Our day begins at 8:05, but many children will feel more comfortable with some extra time to settle into this exciting day. Please feel free to come in a few minutes early on the first day.
Please remember to send in P.E. shoes, art smock, and swimsuit with your child. Make sure everything is labeled. Don't forget tissues and gallon-size bags!

Also, now is a great time to check out the Clothing Closet near Mrs. Klug's science room if you need an extra pair of pants or a new shirt, etc. There were many donations over the summer. Take what you need now and share your own uniform items when your child grows out of them!

We will be sending out a schedule on Wednesday for our Get Acquainted Conferences. Please indicate your first, second, and third time choices and we will email you a confirmation of your conference time as soon as most forms have been returned.

Upcoming Events:

➢ Parent Night is Thursday, September 3 at 7:00. The Second Grade Teachers will share information about the school year.

➢ "Get to Know You” Conference Day is Friday, September 4. This short conference is a time to share information about your child with his/her teachers. Welcome to Class 2D!

Welcome to Second Grade and our classroom blog!
We are very excited to meet all of our new 2D kids.

Second grade will be a year filled with incredible experiences.
What fun we will have together!
We hope to see you at the Ice Cream Social on Monday, August 24. Families new to Academy are welcome to arrive at 5:00. Other families may arrive any time between 5:30 and 7:00.
Mrs. Reckner and I will be located near the yellow balloons with the other Second Grade teachers.
Parents, please note that this year your carpool tags will be given out at the Ice Cream Social. If you cannot make it to the Social, we will send them home with your child on the first day of school.

Continue to enjoy the sunshine of summer! We'll see you soon.
